Story
Shaina was born in Italy but raised and trained in Athena Sanctuary by an unknown master for several years. She gained a reputation to be a fierce and one of the most deadly fighters, and that reputation would follow her through her whole life. She was eventually granted the Silver Ophiuchus Cloth and developed her signature technique, the Thunder Claw. Her fierce reputation would also garner her the attention of several trainees in Sanctuary who would follow her around.
Having become a Silver Saint she decided to take on her own disciple, a boy named Cassios. Shaina trained the boy fiercely, subjecting him to severe training. She wanted the boy to become a fearsome warrior, and her tactics turned him into somewhat of a demon, but a loyal one at that. When Cassios was 15, Shaina decided it was time for the boy to fight for one of the 88 Cloths. To win the Bronze Pegasus Cloth Cassios defeated nine opponents with ease, by decapitating them with a single stroke. Shaina realized that her disciple's final opponent would be Seiya who was the disciple of Eagle Marin. Determined to see that Cassios won the tournament and the Pegasus Cloth, she looked out for any dirty rumors about Seiya.[1]
When the day came for the tournament, Shaina revealed to the Pope of the Sanctuary that there was a rumor that Seiya had been outside its borders without permission. While Seiya denied the rumors she claimed he was afraid of Cassios who was far more powerful than him, and that a Japanese had no right to the Cloth. She was however interrupted by Leo Aiolia who said she was mistaken. The battle between Seiya and Cassios would eventually start, and to begin with it looked like Shaina's disciple would win. Until Seiya cut his ear of, and started beating Cassios up to Shaina's dismay. It became clear to her that she had trained him insufficiently, as Cassios had the physical strength of a Saint but not the necessary knowledge of the Cosmo, the source of a Saint's power. Shaina's followers were beginning to loose faith in Cassios and she scolded them for it, but she had started to realize that her disciple would lose. Seiya suddenly raised his Cosmo and launched his Pegasus Ryu Sei Ken technique at Cassios. Shaina tried to warn him, but it was to late and Cassios was defeated.[1]
Shaina was furious that Seiya had won and decided that she would exact revenge upon him for Cassios and her sake. The following night, she and her followers set out for the house of Marin and Seiya, but they discovered that the two were not there. She realized that they were heading for Sanctuary's border and headed to intercept them. Shaina manged to catch up to them and positioned herself in front of them so that they would not be able to escape. Seiya became furious and told her that he had won over Cassios fair and square. Shaina however took no notice of his outburst, and instead asked Marin if she could fight Seiya without Marin's intervention. Marin agreed and said Seiya was a big boy now. Shaina charged at Seiya and used her Thunder Claw technique at the boy which sent shocks of electricity into him. Seiya retaliate with his own attack, but Shaina mocked him by saying that she could count his punches and blocked them all. She struck him a powerful blow that sent him flying down a cliff, but it had not killed him so she went down after him. To her surprise Seiya was no longer there, and suddenly she could sense a terrible Cosmo. In an instant she was struck in the shoulder by an unknown force. She realized it must have been Seiya and demanded that he showed himself. The boy appeared dressed in his Cloth and Marin told Shaina that she should retreat. Shaina was not impressed and attacked the new Saint and easily overpowered him as she had noticed that Seiya was not in control of his Cloth. She continued to pummel Seiya with her fists until she picked him. Marin tried to tell Seiya how to control the Cloth, but Seiya said that he could not fight a woman. As she was about to finish him, her followers showed up and told her to let them handle it. They were however defeated in an instant and Seiya flared his Cosmo greatly. Shaina was unable to see his punches, and was even struck by one that shattered her mask. Seiya came up to her and said that he had expected her to look like a demon instead of a beauty. She sneered at his comment saying that the next time they would fight she would be wearing her Cloth, so he better be prepared. Seiya commented that he would rather avoid that and walked away.[1]
Arc of Revenge
Seiya and nine other Bronze Saints would then go on to participated in the Galaxian Wars tournament, an event that was against the Sanctuary's rules. Personal battles for personal gain was forbidden, especially since they were competing for the Sagittarius Gold Cloth. Cygnus Hyoga was the first one to be sent to deal with them, but he joined them in their tournament. Phoenix Ikki appeared in the middle of the tournament and stole the Gold Cloth as an attempt for revenge. He also pitted the Bronze Saints in matches to his subordinate Black Saints. The Pope of Sanctuary could not stand by any longer and sent two teams of Silver Saints to deal with the aggressors. The first team consisting of Lizard Misty, Eagle Marin, Centaurus Babel, Hound Asterion and Whale Moses was sent to kill the Bronze Saints. Shaina was selected to be part of the second team consisting of Crow Jamian, Auriga Capella, Cerberus Dante and Perseus who had the objective of destroying the Graad Colosseum the Galaxian Wars tournament was held in and kidnapping Saori Kido who was the arranger of the tournament. Shaina and the others succeeded in destroying the Colosseum but had trouble finding Saori. Jamian was able to located her with his Crows, and used them to kidnap the wealthy girl.
