Golem Rock Tenkakusei Gōremu no Rokku (天角星ゴーレムのロック) is a minor character from Masami Kurumada's classic anime/manga series, Saint Seiya. His power lies within the Heavenly Angle Star (天角星), and is one of the guardians for the third prison of the Underworld.

Story

Swing batter batter.

Rock was once a normal human that lived on Earth but when Athena's seal on the 108 Demon Stars was released he was sought out by the Heavenly Angle Star and the Golem Surplice. The Specter soul inside of him awakened and his star and Surplice transformed him into one of Hades' warriors. After realizing his oath to the god Hades, he travelled to the Underworld and took up his position as a guardian of the third prison. Hades had been reborn into a new vessel of his choosing but he had not been awakened full and lay dormant in his host. His spirit however was active and gave out orders to the Specters and his personal servant Pandora. The god had revived several of Athena's Gold Saints with the offer that they would get their lives back in exchange for killing their goddess. Even though the Saints had been bluffing, Athena ended her own life to sneak into the Underworld and attack Hades undetected. The Saints was unaware of this when they returned to Pandora, but presented the idea as a possibility. Pandora became suspicious and careful of her next step, so she therefore ordered all Specters stationed on Earth to return to the Underworld. The Specters fortress on Earth, Hades' Castle was to automatically crumble to dust when they had left, but several Saints managed to follow the Specters into the Underworld. [1]

Too much!

Rock was minding his duties of watching over the souls of those who had been judged to push the weight of their sins up a hill in the shape of a rock. And as they came all the way up the rock would roll down and they would have to start over. Yet this day the Specter spotted Saint intruders in one of the canyons. He launched his Rolling Bomber Stone technique at them which sent several large boulders tumbling down at the unsuspecting group. When the dust had settle he jumped down and commended himself for taking out three Saints with one stone, and said their corpses would lie under those rocks forever. But to his surprise the three were alive and running away from him, with Rock standing there in disbelief. He yelled at them to wait and that he would not allow them to proceed any further. THe Specter launched another wave of his Rolling Bomber Stone technique at the Saints. Yet it was only the Dragon Saint who turned and apologized for that they were in a hurry and laucnhed his own Rozan Shoryu Ha technique at Rock. The Golem Specter was defeated in an instant and buried under his own rocks.[1]

Concept & Creation

Rock was created by Masami Kurumada for the classic Saint Seiya series. His name is most likely a reference to the rocks that he throws in his technique, and forces the departed in the third prison to push. In the anime adaptation he is not buried under his own rocks when Shiryu defeats him, but gets to say that the Saints were too strong for him, and dies shortly after.[1]

Special Techniques

"Rolling Bomber Stone"

When Rock uses this technique he throws several large round boulders at his enemy in the hopes of crushing him. Since Rock has only used this technique in the third prison where there are plenty of round boulders, it is unknown if the technique can only be done in the presence of large objects to throw.
