Story
Kōga lived in Athena's Sanctuary when he was a baby, and was taken care of by Athena. One peaceful evening when Kōga was playing around and Athena was watching the little boy, Mars appeared. Athena took Kōga and held him close as Mars hovered closer the Sanctuary in the shape of a planet. The god of war claimed he had come for Athena and as Kōga started crying, the god fired an attack against them both. The attack sent them flying back but as the ground was crumbling towards them Sagittarius Seiya appeared and blocked the impending attack. Mars commended the Gold Saint as he materialized himself and told him he had been waiting for this. They told each other they had both been waiting for this moment and engaged in battle. Kōga looked in awe at Seiya during the whole battle.[1]
Several years later, Kōga is training with the Silver Saint Ophiucus Shaina in order to become a Saint. But why he is training to become a Saint they have not told him. The spar with each other but Shaina has the clear advantage and mocks Kōga by calling him weak and throws him into a mound. Kōga retaliates that he will find his own future through his own power. She tells him to show her something to back up all that talk and throws him up on a cliff. Up on the cliff Kōga tries to break a boulder with his bare fists but is unsuccessful, Shaina then explains the concept of a Saint's Cosmo and how to use it. The next day they are sparing with each others again, but as the Silver Saint mentions Athena, Kōga questions her if the goddess really exists. She continues to say that there's also Seiya who saved Kōga's life, yet as Kōga asks who he was she does not say anything. Kōga becomes irritated and says that it was maybe better if he died when he was little and called Seiya a big idiot if he died for saving him. Shaina snaps and lashes out at Kōga, who in reflex after being struck launches a punch with his Cosmo that blows a whole in the ground. The boy tells Shaina he was sorry when he realizes what he did and runs away.[1]
Kōga ventures to the beach house they are living in to give Athena some flowers, as he goes into her room he is surprised by Tatsumi who questions him of his intentions in Athena's room. Athena intervenes and Kōga gets to give his flowers but runs out after it. Later when he is sitting on the beach she seeks him out to talk with him. Kōga tells her he is happy there because he gets to spend so much time with her, but does not understand why he have to become a Saint. Athena replies that if you are not a Saint you cannot protect anyone. As he ask about Athena she becomes silent but tells him he will be told about it when he becomes a Saint. She gives him a crystal shaped pendant that she usually carries around and tells him it is something important and to keep it. Suddenly the revived Mars appears and tells the goddess he has come for her yet again and that there is no Gold Saint to protect her this time. Athena tries to burn her Cosmo to defend Kōga, but a side effect since the last battle with Mars makes her Cosmo mix with darkness so she becomes incapacitated. Kōga tries to defend her but is easily knocked away, Shaina then attacks the god, but after a longer fight she is defeated. She tells Kōga to protect Athena, and with determination Kōga decides to save the goddess. Mars erects a flame shield around him and the goddess which makes it hard for Kōga to break through. But his determination to not give up awakens the Pegasus Cloth and is equipped with it through the pendant he was given from Saori. He launches his Pegasus Ryusei Ken technique and blows away the fire shield to Mars' surprise. The spirit of Seiya appears and tells him that it was Kōga's own Cosmo just now.[1]
His next attack is not as successful as Mars hold him back with only one of his fingers and knocks him away with ease. Saori is then engulfed in the darkness and disappears with Mars standing triumphantly with the goddess' added power and unleashes a firebomb with a huge magnitude. Shaina attempts to protect Kōga and is successful, but he hismelf is knocked out by the force. He awakens later and is angry at his mistake, but upon seeing Shaina injured he takes her back to the beach house where Tasumi and he treats her with medical equipment. The next day Kōga confronts Shaina and tells her that he believes Saori is still alive and will leave the island to find her. The Silver Saint tells him that the Pegasus Cloth will guide him and that should not come back before he have found her. Tatsumi takes him to the mainland by boat and tells him to hurry while saying goodbye. After he have been exploring some of the mainland he sits down for some guidance from his Cloth Stone, but as he sits there a young man appears behind him. He recognise the stone as a Cloth Stone and that Kōga must be a Saint then. He proceeds to take the stone from Kōga to the latter's dismay who tries to take it back by force. He says that personal fights between Saints are forbidden, but since they are out there they can forget that. The boy easily evades Kōga's punches and mocks him for it, and continues to tease him until Kōga starts to burn his Cosmo and manages to cut the young man who unleashes a flamed fist at Kōga and accidentally knocks him out.
He wakes up later in the evening next to a camp-fire with his Cloth Stone around his neck. The orange haired boy apologises for earlier and wonders if he would like some coffee. He then produces fire from his hands to make the fire to Kōga's amazement. The boy wonders if he really have done any training to which he replies that he sort of did. He then proceeds to explain about the seven different elements that can be used by the Cosmo and that each Saint has one. Kōga wonders if he can also make fire, but Sōma says it depends entirely on his element. And when he ask about how one finds out he says he is not so good at that part but in a hushed voice. He shows Kōga how to focus his body to produce his element and introduces himself as [[Sōma|Lionet Sōma]. As he introduces himself as Pegasus Kōga the Lionet is amazed and starts to ask if he has any relation to the legendary Pegasus Seiya. But Kōga does not know anything of him and surprised to hear that he is missing instead of dead as he previously believed. As he sips his coffee he spits it out wondering why it had such a bitter taste to which Sōma explains that it is coffee. When they are about to depart later he asks what Sōma were doing there who replies that he was sent to investigate the giant clash of Cosmo a day ago. Kōga informs him that Athena was kidnapped, but Sōma does not believe him because he knows where she is. When hearing that, Kōga becomes impatient and questions him of her whereabouts. Sōma replies that he will tell him if he rows him out to the island again so that he can investigate the happenings of yesterday. While this he tries to keep out of sight just in case Tatsumi would spot him. When Sōma is finished he tells Kōga to go to Palaestra where he will learn something about Athena. The Pegasus Saint becomes irritated that he did not know her real whereabouts but lets it go.[2]
They travel a long way through desert and forest until one day when night has fallen and they are in a forest. Kōga asks a little about Sōma's life as a Saint but he becomes quiet when asked about his motivations for becoming a Saint. Suddenly the fire goes out and Sōma shouts out to the darkness that he should come out whoever he is. The voice says that he has been at their side for a long time and that they finally noticed him. Out of the forest steps a man dressed in armour who introduces himself as a Marsian, one of Mars' warriors, Mantis Ordukia. Sōma summons his Lionet Cloth and starts attacking the Marsian but his attacks are evaded and he is knocked away. Ordukia the charges towards Kōga and starts pummelling him and mocks at them to come both at once. But Sōma tells him to not butt in and attacks the Marsian again and say he is his prey. Kōga considers Ordukia and enemy as well since he works for Mars and summons his Pegasus Cloth. But as he attempts to move he finds the Cloth to be extremely heavy and is informed by Sōma that he needs to burn his Cosmo to wear the Cloth. Ordukia takes this as an opportunity and attacks Kōga but Sōma intervenes and protects him. The Marsian then creates a mist of darkness around them and strikes at them from the shadows. Kōga watches helplessly as Sōma is beaten and decides he does not want to be helpless any more. He focuses his body like Sōma told him and is able to produce a blinding light that blinds the Marsian. He tells Sōma to attack Ordukia and he wastes no time and strikes the Martian with his Flame Desperado technique which sends him flying. Ordukia ends up running away into the forest and the two are left to continue their journey.[2]
Concept & Creation
Kōga was created solely for Saint Seiya: Omega and was not created by any contact with Masami Kurumada. Before the production of the series, Kurumada told the producers that they had free reign over the show. From the beginning they were planning to use a style more similar to Shingo Araki but the plans were scrapped and the designs was used in a new style instead.
Special Techniques
"Pegasus Ryu Sei Ken"
Kōga performs hundreds of punches at the same time which makes it look like small meteors.
