Troll Ivan Tenpaisei Tororu no Iwan (天敗星トロルのイワン) is a minor character from Masami Kurumada's classic anime/manga series, Saint Seiya. His power lies within the Heavenly Defeat Star (天敗星), and is one of the guardians for the third prison of the Underworld.

When Athena's seal on the 108 Demon Stars was released, the Heavenly Defeat Star and Troll Surplice immediately sought the human Ivan out. When the star awakened his Specter soul the Surplice transformed him into one of Hades' 108 Specters. He also realized his oath of servitude to Hades and journeyed to the Underworld and took up his position as guardian of the third prison. Hades was not fully awakened at this point but his spirit was actively giving orders to the Specters. The god had revived several of Athena's Gold Saints with the offer of restoring them to their former lives if they took Athena's life in return. The saints had of course been bluffing, but Athena had nevertheless taken her own life in an attempt to sneak into the Underworld and defeat Hades undetected. Hades' servant Pandora became aware of the possibility of what the goddess might do and instead of taking any chances she ordered all the Specters stationed on Earth to return to the Underworld. Their stronghold on Earth, Hades' Castle was also to crumble to dust when they left but before that happened, several Saints managed to get sneak into the Underworld.[1]

Ivan was wandering around the third prison when he heard several trespassers on their way to him. He stood high as he yelled at them that they were not allowed to pass through the third prison as they felt like. But as he was in the middle of saying his name, the Cygnus Saint dashed at him and attacked him with his Diamond Dust technique. The very cold technique defeated Ivan in an instant who tumbled backwards to the ground while finishing his name before he died.[2]

Concept & Creation

Ivan was created by Masami Kurumada for the classic Saint Seiya series. His star is a deliberate pun on the fact that het gets defeat by Cygnus Hyoga in an instant.

Special Techniques

"The Great Perestroika"

Perestroika is the name of one of Russia's political and economical reformations, so what the technique does can only be speculated since Ivan was killed before it could be shown in the series.
