The Gold Cloths are the highest class of the Cloths that Athena's Saints wield, and the least common. They provide the most protection, and cover most of the body, though they don't have as many unique abilities as their weaker counterparts.

Cloth Traits

Like all Cloths, Gold Cloths are alive. Using the Cosmo of the wearer, they function as protection. They can be destroyed, though they had survived from the ages of myth through countless battle. It took the strength of a god in his true body to shatter a Gold Cloth. They all freeze at -273.15 degrees Celsius (Absolute Zero) and typically speaking, the wearers can fight at the Speed of Light, due to their having awakened the Seventh Sense. With their Cloths being so enduring, their bodies almost entirely covered, and being able to fight at the Speed of Light, harming a Gold Saint proves a challenge.

Cloth History

Gold-Light of the Zodiac

While the Bronze Cloth and the Silver Cloth generally have constellations that lie to the north and south of the Sun's path, the Gold Cloth have constellations that lie along the Ecliptic, each being blocked by the Sun at a differing time. Being the Zodiac, these Cloth have absorbed the light of the Sun since the age of Myth, and can even recreate that might when combined.

Gold Cloths

Aries Gold Cloth
Aries Cloth.

The Aries Gold Cloth is used by Mu in Saint Seiya and Saint Seiya: Episode G, by Shion in Saint Seiya: The Lost Canvas and Saint Seiya: Next Dimension, and by Kiki in Saint_Seiya:_Omega. While having all of the strengths of a Gold Cloth, it seems to have no unique traits of it's own, the telekinetic powers being solely of their users' abilities. It seems to have roughly the same strength as the other Gold Cloths.

Taurus Gold Cloth
Taurus Cloth.

The Taurus Gold Cloth is used by Aldebaran in Saint Seiya and Saint Seiya: Episode G, by Hasgard in Saint Seiya: The Lost Canvas, by Ox in Saint Seiya: Next Dimension, and by Harbinger in Saint Seiya: Omega. While having all of the strengths of a Gold Cloth, it seems to have no unique traits of it's own, the horns being the only possible, unused, exception. It seems to have roughly the same strength as the other Gold Cloths. The horn being broken off of the Cloth was likely due to surprise on Aldebaran's part.

Gemini Gold Cloth
Gemini Cloth.

The Gemini Gold Cloth is used by Saga and Kanon in the Original Series (Saga also wore it in Saint Seiya: Episode G), by Asperos and Defteros in Saint Seiya: The Lost Canvas, by Abel and Cain in Saint Seiya: Next Dimension, and by Paradox in Saint Seiya: Omega. The Cloth seems to display two Cosmo at once: One of light, and one of darkness. The wearer can control the Cloth from a distance, and even turn the Temple of the Gemini into a labyrinth of illusions. It seems to have roughly the same strength as the other Gold Cloths.

Cancer Gold Cloth
Cancer Cloth.

The Cancer Gold Cloth is used by Deathmask in Saint Seiya and Saint Seiya: Episode G, by Mandigold and Sage in Saint Seiya: The Lost Canvas, by Deathtoll in Saint Seiya: Next Dimension, and by Schiller in Saint Seiya: Omega. The Cloth has the ability to allow the wielder to travel to the border of the afterlife, without any obvious consequence. It seems to have roughly the same strength as the other Gold Cloths.

Leo Gold Cloth
Leo Cloth.

The Leo Gold Cloth is used by Aiolia in Saint Seiya and Saint Seiya: Episode G (with Ikki having briefly worn it in the Original Series), by Regulus and Ilias in Saint Seiya: The Lost Canvas, by Kaiser in Saint Seiya: Next Dimension, and by Mycenae in Saint Seiya: Omega. While having all of the strengths of a Gold Cloth, it seems to have no unique traits of it's own. It seems to have roughly the same strength as the other Gold Cloths. This strength did not help it, however, from being destroyed by an angry Thanatos.

Virgo Gold Cloth
Virgo Cloth.

The Virgo Gold Cloth is used by Shaka in Saint Seiya and Saint Seiya: Episode G (with Shun having briefly worn it in the Original Series), by Asmita in Saint Seiya: The Lost Canvas, by Shijima in Saint Seiya: Next Dimension, and by Fudou in Saint Seiya: Omega. While having all of the strengths of a Gold Cloth, it seems to have no unique traits of it's own. It seems to have roughly the same strength as the other Gold Cloths. This strength did not help it, however, from being destroyed by an angry Thanatos.

Libra Gold Cloth
Libra Cloth.

The Libra Gold Cloth is used by Dohko in the Original Series, Saint Seiya: Episode G, Saint Seiya: The Lost Canvas, and Saint Seiya: Next Dimension, by Shiryu, briefly, during the Original Series, and by Genbu in Saint Seiya: Omega. The Cloth has the twelve Libra Weapons, six pairs of weapons that surpass the might of several Gold Saints. Despite these mighty weapons, it still managed to get destroyed by an angry Thanatos.

Scorpio Gold Cloth
Scorpio Cloth.

The Scorpio Gold Cloth is used by Milo in Saint Seiya and Saint Seiya: Episode G, by Kardia in Saint Seiya: The Lost Canvas, and by Sonia in Saint Seiya: Omega. While not explicitly stated, it does seem to produce a poison for the attacks of the Scorpio Saint. It seems to have roughly the same strength as the other Gold Cloths.

Ophiuchus Gold Cloth
Ophiuchus Cloth.

The Ophiuchus Gold Cloth is a legendary Cloth said to have existed in the ages of legends, though unseen in the modern era. In Saint Seiya: Next Dimension, it is revealed by Virgo Shijima that this is what Garuda Suikyou warned with his message of "13". In the current time, a strange acting Ophiuchus Shaina climbed the unguarded Sanctuary, stopping between the House of the Scorpion and the House of the Archer, finding the runs of the House of the Snake-Bearer, warning that the end of the world is coming, before attacking Marin. Shijima and Cardinale speak of the origins of the Ophiuchus Gold Saint, one similar to that of Asclepius.

Sagittarius Gold Cloth
Sagittarius Cloth.

The Sagittarius Gold Cloth is used by Aiolos in Saint Seiya and Saint Seiya: Episode G, by Sisyphus in Saint Seiya: The Lost Canvas, and by Seiya (who briefly wore it during the Original Series) in Saint Seiya: Omega. The Cloth has a mighty bow and arrow made of the same material as the Gold Cloths, used as a weapon. It seems to have roughly the same strength as the other Gold Cloths. This strength did not help it, however, from being destroyed by an angry Thanatos.

Capricorn Gold Cloth
Capricorn Cloth.

The Capricorn Gold Cloth is used by Shura in Saint Seiya and Saint Seiya: Episode G, by El Cid in Saint Seiya: The Lost Canvas, by Izo in Saint Seiya: Next Dimension, and by Ionia in Saint Seiya: Omega. While having all of the strengths of a Gold Cloth, it seems to have no unique traits of it's own. It seems to have roughly the same strength as the other Gold Cloths.

Aquarius Gold Cloth
Aquarius Cloth.

The Aquarius Gold Cloth is used by Camus in Saint Seiya and Saint Seiya: Episode G (with Hyoga having briefly worn it in the Original Series), by [[Dégel] in Saint Seiya: The Lost Canvas and by Tokisada in Saint Seiya: Omega. While having all of the strengths of a Gold Cloth, it seems to have no unique traits of it's own. It seems to have roughly the same strength as the other Gold Cloths. This strength did not help it, however, from being destroyed by an angry Thanatos.

Pisces Gold Cloth
Pisces Cloth.

The Pisces Gold Cloth is used by Aphrodite in Saint Seiya and Saint Seiya: Episode G, by Albafica in Saint Seiya: The Lost Canvas, by Cardinale in Saint Seiya: Next Dimension, and by Amor in Saint Seiya: Omega. While having all of the strengths of a Gold Cloth, it seems to have no unique traits of it's own. It seems to have roughly the same strength as the other Gold Cloths.

Notable Cloth Abilities

Gemini: Illusion Control

The Gemini Saint can control his Cloth inside the Temple of the Gemini all the way from the Pope's Chamber and use it to turn the Temple into a labyrinth in order to confuse, trap, and eventually kill foes from a distance, if not remove them from the dimension itself.

Cancer: Get Out of Hell Free Card

The Cancer Gold Cloth allows it's wielder to travel to the entrance to the underworld without fear of being trapped or falling into Hell.

Libra: Star Shattering Weapons

The Libra Gold Cloth is composed of twelve weapons, six pairs, that rival the power of several Gold Saints, and that are said to be able to crush stars. The weapons are two Swords, two Spears, two Double Rods, two Triple Rods, a pair of Tonfa, and two Shields. These weapons can only be used if Athena deems the cause worthy, and only by those the Libra Saint deems worthy.

Scorpio: Deadly Poison

While not exactly stated, the Scorpio Gold Cloth likely provides the poison for the Scorpio Saint's Scarlet Needle attack. The attack is a poison that brings great pain and debilitation to the victim, and is a guaranteed kill after all 15 strikes (in the shape of the Scorpio Constellation, with the last being at Antares *The Heart*) are done to the body.

Sagittarius: Supreme Bow and Arrow

The Sagittarius Gold Cloth has shown only one unique method of attack in the Original Series: Infusing the user's Cosmo into the arrow, and firing it at a target. The arrow is very powerful, and was even a mild threat to an awakening Poseidon when Seiya burned his Cosmo high enough.

Notes & Trivia

  • The ranks of the Saints were inspired by school divisions: Junior High Students: Bronze Saints, High School Students: Silver Saints, College Students: Gold Saints. The ranks and the armor coverage of the Cloths were inspired by the military: Company Officer: Bronze, Field Officer: Silver, General: Gold. The lower ranks would wear jumpers with short sleeves, the higher ranks would wear jackets, and, the Generals would wear long coats.
