The translation I've been reading calls him Blue and the girl is Green. XD In the Japanese version, they were named after their eye colors (Red has red eyes, guy has green eyes, girl has blue eyes). I just think it makes more sense to call the guy Blue, though. Blue is a guy's color. XD Green is more unisex.

That reminds me, I need to get back to reading the manga. I still haven't finished the Diamond and Pearl arc.

Nah it has nothing to do with blue being the boy color but it was with the game version. Japan had Red (Charizard) and Green (Venusaur) while the rest of the world had Red and Blue.

Viz changed the rival to be Blue and the new girl to be Green

I don't have the Viz version and as far as I know I got my Singapore version 'Chuang Yi' (which is still in English and does have Green's name changed in FRLF) long before Viz had licensed it and if I am not mistaken I was on Platinum when Viz released the first volume. I am happy that I got it before it was released by Viz because it has the exact same covers with the Japanese one while Viz has vibrant colors and very childish look (yeah I know it's for kids it even says Vizkids on the cover).

Actually, the first 7 volumes of the Chuang Yi release were based on Viz's original release of the Pokemon Special manga from many years ago I believe (minus the covers). For some reason or another, Viz stopped releasing it after the end of the Yellow arc, but Chuang Yi kept going.

This was from 15 years ago.

Also, the manga is for kids, so that shouldn't be too surprising. There's a few risque jokes, but given how almost all kids shows in Japan have worse ones, it's not that surprising (Hell, the best American cartoons are clever enough to get away with jokes that would normally never get passed the channel's Standards and Practices if they were paying close enough attention). Gotta throw in some messed up humor for the adults while the kids enjoy the wackier stuff.

That does look better than the current vol 1 however saying that Chuang Yi's covers were based on Viz release is not true as the very first volume was out in 1998 which is two year prior to Viz release and even they did exist back then I never saw them on the shelves which means they published only a few. Also Gold & Silver series was the only one with a glossy cover.

Anyway Chuang Yi doesn't exist anymore, now it's Shogakukan Asia.

As for the jokes, don't think that there isn't any joke in manga/comics anime/cartoon that doesn't apply for adults too, let's not forget they are written by adults so it happens.

But can we say for sure that "The Simpsons" comic series is really for kids? the things they say and do in there...don't think is for kids unless the standard has changed so much.

I said minus the cover (as in not the cover). I've always heard the English translation released in Asia was done from Viz's version. Sorry if that's wrong (just what people said several years ago, when I started reading it since we only had 7 volumes here).

I did know they went under though.

I know, but it's not unheard of to have jokes in kids shows that adults might object to, yet were clearly added for adults...like this one:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1xmAC9Qu908

How they got away with that...I'll never know.

The Simpsons itself isn't for kids, so that shouldn't be that big a surprise.

Not the show, the comic book. There are ads for toys, bubble gums etc etc...stuff that appeal kids.

Well, I don't really read the comic myself, but fair enough. Most comics in the US have given up on appealing to kids and so go for the nostalgic adult (at least that seems to be the case with modern DC and Marvel).

This. It's pretty and has lots of well done CGI but there isn't much of a story. It's the basic outsider goes to enemy, learns they aren't bad and stops their own people from killing them for profit. It's Dance's with Wolves and that movie had far more depth in it and didn't need special effects.

You want to know how much this movie made? 3 BILLION DOLLARS on tickets alone. You want a comparison?

All Eight movies from the Harry Potter Movie franchise combined made 7.8 billion dollars.
The entire Lord of the Rings trilogy made 5.8 billion.
The entire Star Wars franchise from the original franchise to the recent prequels plus IMAX reshowings when adjusted for inflation only made 4.5 billion

Avatar alone made 3 billion.

Now they are going to take the sequel and stretch it out to three movies.

Neither do I, I only purchased an issue back in 2009 and that was it. That's totally true I remember in Astonishing X-Men that there was an ad about a car...was in every issue for a while.

@topaz989

Actually Avatar made it close to 2.8 billion. In any case Harry Potter, Star Wars, Jurassic Park Lord of the Rings and a Song of Ice and Fire are also overrated.
Pretty sure these franchises made more millions out of the movies (and series) that Avatar didn't do.

A Song of Ice and Fire is anything but overrated. Most of the fans were originally fans of the book series, and the books themselves have a VERY large and fervent fanbase. I'd say the series deserves the hype it gets since it's very original and avoids most of the clichés in fantasy literature. I got into the book series before the TV-show was even announced and I've read the first two volumes - I haven't watched the TV-show at all myself yet, but I actually managed to get someone into it and now they're a huge fan.

I mean, how many fantasy authors kill off their main characters without any warning whatsoever, not even caring that the character in question had lots of fans? GRRM is a huge troll so I'm calling that ALL the main characters / POV characters will be dead by the end of the series, including Jon, Catelyn, Cersei, Jaime, Tyrion and Dany. EVERYBODY.

...I actually want Dany to die. She's my least favorite character after Joffrey.

I have also started reading it before the HBO series a friend recommended it to me. Sure it has a good story but must you have a sexual intercourse so often in one book and in every single book? do you have to describe it so detailed as well that it gets really disgusting? I am telling you this man is either a very sick person or a mega pervert. I am supposed to read a good book with a good story not a porn book with a good plot.

Yes, it does get you hooked but he could leave that out. That's my only complaint.

That's why they call ASOIAF "gritty and realistic". Back in the medieval times (which is what the story is based on), brothels were everywhere and stuff like that happened all the time. Knights weren't really... knightly around that time, either - they were more like Westeros soldiers, dallying with women and looting each time there was a battle. The concept of chasteness is a religious thing - in the Middle Ages when the Church was just gaining ground, sexual dallying was routine in rural villages. The medieval Church even approved of brothels - most villages had a brothel, and some towns and cities had more than one. So yeah, I'd say ASOIAF's dose of this is completely normal.

A story inspired by the Wars of the Roses isn't supposed to be 'prim and proper'. XD Henry VIII had six wives and killed most of them.

Well excuse me but he could just say that they had sex or whatever, who cares about the details? I am still not convinced that the dude is not a pervert and unleashes his fantasies in a book.

At least his 'fantasies' make more sense than Stephenie Meyer's do. XD I'd much rather read the sex scenes in ASOIAF than a married woman's wet dream about sparkly vampires.

Wow I almost forgot the Twilight series. I bought the first book and never managed to finish it. I never expected something that was so hyped to be so bad. I guess it was overrated when it was still new but now I think it died out no?

What's sad is that the friend of mine who suggested this book to me happens to be a guy and he was pretty excited of the series, bought all the books and watched the movies but honestly I think the series was meant for chicks but I could be wrong.

Anyway there are people that like something just because it happens to be popular at that time and when it dies they don't like it anymore. I call this kind of person sheep.

I'm the complete opposite - I usually end up avoiding popular series like the plague (Attack on Titan, anyone?), and only watch them if I'm actually interested. ...Ace of Diamond, Haikyuu, Kuroko no Basket and One Piece deserve the hype they get. Especially One Piece because honestly, Eiichiro Oda is an amazing storyteller.
