Yep, I think it was a little inside joke, since Bleach is almost Saint Seiya 2. Kubo acknowedged it in an old interview, saying StS was the first manga he read when he was a kid.
That's nice to know, I always had the impression that it was DB.

So I saw the episode yesterday, and wow, Ryuho is a great character, even if he seems too much like Shun. He's strong, he's related to Shiryu, he's a noble person working towards a noble and selfless goal, and well liked by his peers, it's no wonder he has a weak body, i mean, he needed to have something wrong to balance it all out, after all, we already have a perfect being/god in Saori haha.... The Kouga/Ryuho fight was an OK one. It certainly was pretty onesided but, it was a fight that the new pegasus needed. It is now obvious Kouga will only learn and get stronger by getting kicked around (i can't wait to see him fight the bad guys *sarcasm*). But then again that is the bronze way of getting stronger... That new attack? pretty good. And that the Dragon shield is still pretty tough? awesome. Still, we need some stronger teases from our lovable bronzies, besides flashbacks. I mean, i understand that it's too early to involve them in the plot, but, i'd love to know what happened to the rest and what are they doing, while Kouga keeps getting kicked around learns how to become a strong pegasus saint. But what Ichi said about the new properties of cosmos, and about the cloths was quite interesting, even if it seems like just a tease. I sure hope we get a good explanation in the future.....

I heard... he’ll get kicked by Ikki too! If it's true I can’t wait to see it Ichi gave me the impression, he's just pretending about not being able to control his element (sometimes bronzes were kind of clowns -.-|). If so, might be because??? main prize is to see Athena... :/

Ryuho is the adorable thing ever! I just want to grab him and snuggle him. I felt kind of sad for him and Shunrei though. Ryuho said he could comminicate with his dad through Cosmo, but is Shunrei able to do the same? I know she was more sensitive to cosmo than most people but still....
I'm really looking forward to find out a bit more about what made the Cloths change, and I hope the tournament lets us have more insights.
The only thing I didn't like about this episode was how it felt more school drama-ish than Saint Seiya-ish. And really, I hate how much focus they're putting on the element aspect. It bugs me and is about the only thing that I really dislike about this series.

Didn't Hirohiko Araki call Bleach a ripoff of Saint Seiya at one point or another? -Wait a tic, if burning your cosmos high enough negates the elements anyway, then what the heck is the point of introducing the system? :\
To make dramatic underdog victories even more dramatic. Just wait until Ryuho has a fight where he gets his ass continually handed to him by some guy with earth cosmo, and then, all of a sudden, he awakens his Seventh Sense and uses his water Excalibur (Aquacalibur?) to completely decimate his opponent. I'm also waiting for the inevitable episode where Shiryu dies for whatever reason and gives Excalibur to Ryuho. I'm assuming that, since he's using Aquacalibur (I think I'm gonna stick with that), he doesn't have the normal Excalibur yet. Or he does and he's using it with water to enhance it. I guess all we can do is play the waiting game. One last thing, am I the only one on here using Crunchyroll for watching this?

NOOOOO don't say that Shiryu will die. I really want to see more of the original fab five. Since all the previous gold saints are dead I want to see more of Ikki and all the rest. I hope they bring them back soon. And if Ikki is going to beat Kouga up, I CANNOT wait. I love Ikki.
I'm still not sure how I feel about this series. I'm watching it, I'm taking it for what it is. But I just miss the old saint seiya. They changed so much with cloth stones and elements. I think I would have accepted it more if they had finished Lost Canvas before starting this because I still really want to see it completed. But I will continue to watch this and hope I get hooked. And I hope for more Ikki and the fab five.

Sure, setting up that underdog + resolve moment is cool and all but they can do that easily without the need for the elemental stuff. I mean, that's one of the things the classic series is well known for! Also lol @ calling it the Aquacalibur. I'm so stealing that, good sir. But I'm sure Shiryu can pass it to his boy without dying. In fact I'm betting that's exactly what happened.

@GVmanX: I watch it on Crunchyroll to support it a bit after watching the fan release. Crunchyroll just takes too long to put it up when you don't have a paid account. (not worth it for me for the few titles they have continuing that I care about).
I really liked this episode though. I liked Ryuho, and we did get a bit more insight. I have a theory now... haha! Ryuho said Shiryu still had his senses until a fight after he was born. My bet is that fight is the same fight that introduced the new elements to the cloths and knocked all the Bronze boys down. Because it would make more sense then some magical, random occurrence. Also, Seiya and Saori hardly seemed surprised the first time Mars showed up in the first episode. It makes me think they at least expected to see him at some point.
But yes. I am happily waiting for each episode. It helps to make myself distance it from the classic though. I'm trying not to compare them so much as enjoy it for what it is. A spin off. And frankly, the classic plot had enough plot holes to begin with xD.

But imagined how much more shocking and awe-inspiring those moments will be now that you will have elements beating elements that they shouldn't be able to beat! Fire beating water!? My God!! Although, I'm sure the reason that's mostly responisble for it is that the whole element thing is so common in everything nowadays that they thought it'd make the series more appealing to the kids rather than just appealing to the crusty old men and smelly fujoshi that love Saint Seiya. As for Aquacalibur, feel free to use it as long as you don't plan to make any money off of it by using it as the name of a refreshing sports beverage.

Ryuho was so cute. I like him too. I like the balance of him not lasting very long in battle with his awesome cos... er element. Plus the scene where he talks about defending his father's honor as well as saving him was well written and voiced. I have no idea how he's going to get through the next episode though with how weak he is physically.
I felt so sad for Ichi. Poor guy. Watching him being forced to walk around as an adult with kids all around seems very humiliating. I wanted to give him a hug when he cried about not being able to use an element.
What the heck is up with George/Georges? While Geki clearly look and dressed the roll of someone who teaches, this guy had a suit and tie. I thought he was just a civilian but he shows he can use Elements too.

Ryuho is gonna be my favorite of the new guys. I enjoyed the duel. ^^
I wonder about that guy too, he's rather unfriendly...

What worked - Ryuho’s a real sweetheart. The kid’s friendly, polite, open-minded, doesn’t brag, is well liked by everyone and looks just adorable. He’s also rather perceptive and he definitely knows his stuff. And although he's all Shunrei on the outside, he sure has his father’s backbone. Nice - Stardust making an appearance is cool. Shame they use it to make punching balls. - I’ll give the team some points for actually having put together an explanation for the Cloths' mutation. Some vague Cosmic Power isn’t gonna cut it but it will do for now. - xD @ Koga finally understanding why Shaina spent her time mowing the lawn, chopping wood and racking the beach with his front teeth. And being quite grateful for it too!
What didn’t - Episode 3 ended with Koga happily introducing himself to his classmates. Episode 4 start with him leaving the Palaestra behind. Did I miss something? - Ichi as comic relief feels off. Sure, the guy’s conveniently ugly and was always a bit of a joke anyway. But relegating him to the bottom of the barrel is rude. - I’m on the fence regarding the Elements, the way they are used and the fact that we’re dealing with a rock-paper-scissor kind of system. Thankfully, good old powerful Cosmos still trumps all but I’m worried about techniques having more to do with the Element than the Constellation. What I really don’t like though is the whole “you’re useless if you can’t figure out your Element" bit. Nice way to make the old generation suddenly obsolete. - Shunrei getting stuck caring for a guy who is not just blind but also mute, deaf and incapable of appreciating her cooking is cruel. Having to worry about her sick child following in his daddy’s footsteps is just adding insult to injury. Why is this woman putting up with all that crap? - It’s weird the way I never had any issues with Ikki’s flames (or even Soma’s) coming out of nowhere (spontaneous combustion I guess) but Ryuho making gallons of water out of thin air is bugging the hell out of me. - That fight was a bit of a yawn for me and had way too much yapping. - Geki and Ichi failing to put two and two together when Koga yells “Saori-san!!!” left me scratching my head. I know they didn’t get to hang out with Seiya much but c’mon. - The new Cloths sure look a lot more resilient than the old ones. I would have liked the Sho Ryu Ha to have left at least a few scratches on Koga’s but I guess now’s not the time to get into the whole regeneration thing (if it even still exists).
