I know there's a number of Harry Potter fans here. I just got discarded copies Sorcerer's Stone and Chamber of Secrets from the local library donations earlier this morning in the first book hoarding I've done since December. I haven't started on it yet but will do so after reading The Outsiders as well as Burning Chrome so this thread is put here in advance. Please no spoilers yet (as I stated I haven't started yet)!

There's also a copy of Order of the Phoenix laying around in the library donation section and I intend to get it along with toher books on my scheduled book hoarding next week (if it isn't taken first that is!). Cheesy

I was a fan.

...Okay, a bit understatement. I'm still a fan, but instead a fan of its stories, I'm a fan of its setting.  I personally found it amusing. To think it's the first english book that made me wanting to read more english materials, I'd say... it's pretty nostalgic.

Never bought it by myself; I always got it from my parents, who always presented them tome as birthday gifts xD

Like Lady of Fireflies, I too am a fan but of the settings and not the stories. However, nowdays I see variations of Hogwarts pop-up everywhere in the juvenile literature and manga I come across, it's becoming quite tiresome.

I also have to join Lady of Fireflies and magicofthepiper. Although I like the setting, I do not like the book that much... The fantasy, the idea behind it, is great. However, I just cannot make myself like the characters or the storyline of Harry Potter.

Well I starter HP series this year too by influence of my boyfriend. I've to adimit I had a bit of misjudge of it because I was a 'magic' fan since ever, but for me wizards and mages would be that self studing eremit old ones... or in brotherhoods of magic studying as a life meaning. Like Gandalf and all the brotherhoods of D&D's RPG worlds. And the first movie makes me fell bored, but I gave a change to the books recently and I'm enjoying it as much as it's possible. Stopped reading to finish the Dark Tower series that I've stoped for a while and finishing the last Dark Tower I'll be back from The Prisioner of Askaban.

By the way, I love The Ousiders (the movie and the book). I think it's kind of like if you're living with the Sodapop's gang while you're reading the story. At least with me, I've felt under the book universe when I read it.
