« on: August 08, 2007, 08:04:24 PM »
Hey, I was wondering if anyone here knows a lot of Japanese, and could teach me some.

Langenscheidt's Pocket Dictionary Japanese-English, English-Japanese is also a good one - small and with the essential stuff.

Oxford Starter Dictionary also interesting.

Actually the best thing is to take a proper language course with native language teachers. Everything else is just lacking.

actually, if someone could post some words/phrases that are used a lot in SS, that might be good. It will enhance the enjoyment of watching the anime, IMHO.

For example, here are the words that I can't think of at the top of my head:
masaka     : impossible
baka (ra?) : lies, idiot, impossible
niisan        : big brother
boku, ore  : I (me)
ware ware: we (us)
mei you     : king of the underworld
kirae          : take this

btw, I don't know Japanese so the Japanese words are written based on what I heard & the translations are what I got from the subtitles so I don't even know if those are even close to the real translation or not :P

Yeah, that too!

ok, here are some more:

nani       : what
sugoi     : fantastic
doshite  : what's the matter
yatta
yukata (?)

I should shut up now before embarrasing myself further...  :^_^U:

I picked up a few words from Saint Seiya, too.

ani: big brother

One of the phrases that's stuck in my head (apparently forever) is Aiolia's "Maketa... ore no ani." (aka 'I lost... to my brother.'). I think the base word for maketa is makeru... ('makenaide' means 'don't lose' ...That one I picked up from "Ichirin no Hana", a Bleach intro song.)

That reminds me... hana is flower, ichirin means 'one flower' (sort of like one flower flower, but that makes no sense... I just translate the song name into 'Lone Flower', like it's usually translated as.).

Also, mamoru is 'to protect'.

And thus, you now know half the script.
