Well, I wrote a paper on chat lingo and 1337 for my sociolinguistics seminar at the university. That was fun

...Ya. ...Sometimes Finnish can be pretty damn impolite, too. xD Especially because people here tend to not talk in standard language anymore (only old and/or traditional people, and some kids, do. I did when I was little.). Most of the time everyone uses spoken language.

For example "minä" aka "me/I" is shortened into "mä" in spoken language. ...And it's impolite to use that in the presence of old, traditional people. x3 But most people still do.

"Annas kun pyyhkäsen sun naaman paremman näköseks." would, in standard language, be "Antakaapa, hyvä herra, että pyyhkäisen kasvojanne hieman.".

Aka "Lemme wipe that face a' yers to make it better-lookin'.". And "Please allow me, good sir, to wipe your face a little.". (=The latter line sounds more polite in Finnish. xD)

And the spoken language wouldn't really look like that once translated... in fact, it'd look more like slang or something.

One of thing that I actually like in Polish is that we have subject in conjecture. I mean we don't have to write "she was there" or "I was there", in Polish we write only (we can write with subject, but in most cases people prefer to short the sentence)  "was there" and because of the form of verb we now about who the sentence is ^^.
But I guess because of that I find writing in English hard, I'm always loosing subject ; ).

you'd like chinese.  we leave out subjects.  for that matter, we leave out various other parts of speech too, like verbs, and there is no conjugation of verbs.

@Raide: i used to study Finnish.... before I got dumpd by my stupid ex Finnish Estonian bf The only word I rememebr until now is ma rakastan sinua.... whoch hurts everytime i say it. Coz it brings back bad memory.

*hugs Endy*  I'm sorry.  I guess it's hard to forget things once it's implanted in your mind.  My papa taught me some native american words, mainly Paiute.  But the one word I remember was Umtechum (Um-tia-zum) or how ever you spell it.  It means woman. XD  only reason why I remember was because it sounded weird.

I am interested in body language and the things that are unsaid, because body language constitutes the major part of a conversation, that really fascinates me. I also like the subconscious mind, how it is affected by subliminal messages, suggestions and such.

And it is really amazing when you start exploring it, and trying it on and see the effects that it has upon people.
