Long thread in a day! WHo said French is vulgar Latin? I love to ehar frenchmen speak french. LOL If there's a hunky frenchman talked to me in french, I would melt like overheated chocolate in his arms!!!

My French teacher always stressed that "French is only vulgar Latin" XD

As a matter of fact, it was the Latin the Roman soldiers spoke and thus it wasn't the high register Latin spoken by the higher classes.

Well, I used the term "vulgar" in the sense of vernacular /  relating to the common people and not in a pejorative way.

Well, they do talk Latin in Vatican. It's the ecclesiastic language most high-ranking priests use nowadays (at least Catholic ones).

Nope, no typo. Holy See is another name for the Vatican. And the link is the CIA World Factbook - very interesting read.

(In religious terms, "see" is the seat of a bishop, btw)

Indeed, the things you find on that CIA factbook...

A couple of things:
 - It is not THAT hard to find gay French man... As I said before, the French aren't extinct thanks to tourism.
 - Latin is just one of those languages used by those who wish to maintain themselves above the rest of the human species - Vatican leaders among them.
 - Endy, You can't access CIA website most likely because you're in one of those countries that are not very well... considered... by the US government.
 - French isn't vulgar Latin. French was influenced a lot by Celtic languages and by Germanic languages from the invading armies from the North of Europe after the fall of the Roman Empire. And of all the languages derived from Latin, there isn't one that resembles it more than the other. They all got strong influences from other languages (Portuguese was even influenced by Arab just as an example...)

1) For me who live in Indonesia, yes it is hard to find serious gay frenchman.
2) Modern Latin speakers are weirdos
3) Weird, Im using a proxy already, just like how I get into SSFan forum coz my ISP is rejected by SSForum. I should have been able to open CIA web.
4) French is still sexy language to me tough Im 'deaf' to it.
