I wonder what is the most complicated and difficult language on earth???? Anyone has opinion? I think its Chinese. First, one word can be pronounced in many different ways depending on the dialects. Second, u must master how to write the words, which is more like calligraphy and pictograph. Third, it's not easy to pronounce correctly. Even I, can not (coz my tongue is too stiff already owing to Indonesian language - duh!)

@Endy: I agree! Also, when a word is pronounced with the wrong intonation, it could mean something very different. In fact, every vowel sound has 4 different intonations. There are also some Chinese words that are written the same way, but has different pronunciation and same meaning. In short, Chinese (written, especially) is a darn complicated language!

I really think there is no single "most difficult" language. It really depends on what you learn first. If you live in China, grow up speaking Chinese, use it everywhere, it won't be "hard" for you. But if you then try to learn English (which is one of the weirdest, most random languages to exist), you'd probably have a hard time. On the other hand, if you're from Western country, like Germany or England or something, you'll probably have an easy time learning other Western languages besides your own, but ones like Chinese or Japanese might seem very difficult.
Also...I'd think languages like Swahili would be even more difficult to adjust to. Especially because they use sounds we do not, such as tongue clicks, and they do not place vowels between all their consonants. Or Arabic, in which there AREN'T any vowels.

Well, Arabic has vowels, they are only noted differently in their written language. Hebrew also tends to leave out vowels in written language - that's why you have transliterations Jehova or Jahwe which are both written the same way in their alphabet.
And about not having vowels between all consonants - for that you can also see German or Polish or Russian. In German you have words like Strahl or Schmied or Pflock. For Russian or Polish I leave the examples to the native speakers ^_^

There was a comedian who tried to pronounce a Swahili name. It had an explanation mark in the name!! !xobile. @Shaina: thanks. I'll send you some of the lyrics soon. Mel
