Stayka's Poetry
« on: July 18, 2007, 12:05:29 PM »
As Sorrento started with some general poetry, I thought I might post some of my stuff, too. There you go!

Danse Macabre
© 1998/06/18 by Stayka deyAvemta

Oh, let me sharpen words
So that their points
Will kill you
Daggerlike as finest steel

Did not a wise man say once
That a word
Is sharper than a sword
And twice as deadly?

He certainly was right:
So I will brandish my well-sharpened pen
And kill you with my sentence

Using my dagger
To cut up your throat
You will be dead in a moment

Cutting you down
With my words or a line
I will make you suffer forever

And myriads of witnesses with glee
Will watch you in eternal agony

Wow! I think that there's another meaning behind...

Maybe: Talking/writing is more dangerous than fighting...

It is always fun to have subtext in poetry :)  Here's another one:

Elements of Thought
© 1998/05/13 by Stayka deyAvemta

Isn't it strange -
That now we have over one hundred elements
When nature supplied us
With an ample amount of 92;
26 of them firstborn in stars
The others experienced a more violent birth.

Still there were times
When four were sufficient.
(Although that's not quite right:
True seekers set out
To find the mysterious quintessence.
They all failed.)

There were even times
When duality sufficed.
One particle here -
The other beyond the deep well;
This leaves us with one from none.

Watch the void become fire
Scattered by the ice-winds of time,
Turning into earth
and more:
Into water my tears.

For it is said that every division
Adds to the loss of substance
So every added element is in fact less.
And I heard
They created another one
Only a short while ago.

This poem is written in the form of a Shakespearean sonnet:

Clipped Wings
© 1998/06/17 by Stayka deyAvemta

When have you last set sail and crossed the sea
To find the wonders of the ancient shores
Not on TV - but for your heart to see
Courageously to step through hidden doors

Remember that we came from farthest stars
And here we are, glued to this solid ball
So now you're asking: should we fly to Mars?
As for your needs we have discovered all

Regretfully I mourn the grievous loss
Of our old exploratory mind
Most people are content, complacent, gross
Preferring instant truth to a true find

For your sweet comfort everything you'd give
But your soul withers - how then can you live?

Nice! And it's true, people are getting ''tame'' these days. And the future won't help it either...

Wow Shaina i really like your poetry. In particular Danse Macabre. the double meaning you give words and comunication overall, im guessing, help expand on the metaphor you give words in that  words are daggers.  :deathmask:

...I have never seen poetry like that in any other place than Shakespeare's plays. 0_0 You should make a poetry book, you know. ;) Especially 'Dance Macabre' pretty much made a great impression on me.

I feel deeply flattered. But even though I'm a big admirer of Shakespeare, I would never dare to think that I would come into a lightyear of his excellence! Thank you. *bows*

BTW, the following text was an assignment in my creative writing class in the university. We were given the last line "the pool will remain forever a mystery." and thus we should write something that would end in that sentence. So this is no real poetry, but I still like the text a lot:

Fading Away
© by Stayka deyAvemta

When the magick fades, the gods pass away.

In a world without dreams darkness prevails. Wistfully I look at the last of the crystal tears that I bought at the Billion Years Fair. Now the girl who cried them is dead, gone with the last of hope that man had for Earth.

In a world without heroes despair rules the land. When even the playgrounds of children are soaked with blood and in the minds of the next generation fester putrid illusions of slaughter and terror, how can they expect to form their world in better ways?

Dark thoughts etch themselves in the currents of dream that form matrices of the things to come. Where has the fair folk gone? They were blown away by the illusion of truth.

In the olden times people were aware that they dreamt the universe, that one careless thought meant birth or death on their world, but when reality became more and more fixed, they relied on the power of matter over spirit.

Where have the miracles gone? Abolished by machines that decide over death and life even when the souls have long passed.

I stare at the aquamarine sparkling crystal tear and I'm sad that terror was the last true feeling that came to pass on the world of man. I don't have to walk among the soulless to recognize the terrible loss this universe experienced.

When I watch the planet from afar it's still the shining jewel it was eons ago - but of its spirit there is nothing left.

Once there was a pool of which Plato spoke, where the old souls went and new souls came from. In the world of the dying light the waters slowly dried as the essence of life faded away.

But for the soulless beings of the dark new generation - the pool will remain forever a mystery.

...Now I'm really sure. You should do something like a poetry/writing book (and I think 'Fading Away' IS poetry. I mean, some Finnish poets write poetry like that. Tommy Tabermann is one of them.).

I get a very surrealistic feeling from this one...
