As I mentioned in my other threads, I'm now the owner of a graphics tablet and am trying to learn how to use it.  Eventually I want to go back and digitally ink and color all of Soldiers of Light:  The Deadly Game before continuing it, but I wanted to try my hand at something shorter and less serious first.  This way, the stakes are lower.

In 2005, when I was really first learning to draw and just beginning to get used to the idea of what a comic is and how characters interact, plus putting my own spin on the characters from Saint Seiya, I drew a six-page comic in pencils that I called Guys' Night Out.  The idea was that it was Shiryuu's 20th birthday (remember that my versions of the characters are college age rather than high school age), and so the five members of "Seiyatachi" had agreed to get all dressed up and meet in Seiya's dockhouse apartment before going out on the town to celebrate.

I will not show that version here.  It is too painful for me to look at.  Instead, I rewrote the script to add a part for Jabu, and started on it last year, planning to ink it with fineliners and color it with colored pencils and markers.  I got through 2 pages that way, but the results were so disappointing that I gave up.

This summer, I "re-redrew" those first two pages, and inked and colored them using the GIMP.  I had never done anything like this before.  I have also drawn, inked, and colored a new p. 3.  The pencils for p. 4 are also done.  Again, my main goal in this is learning how to do all the digital stuff, not to write a great comic (which this isn't), but since no one else but Saint Seiya fans will get the jokes, I figured I might as well post it here.  This will also keep me accountable for finishing it relatively soon.  I have seven pages planned, and will probably do like Marin always did, posting scans of the pencils first, then the completed inks and colors, before going on to the next page.

The short version for TL;DR:
This is my first digitally inked and colored comic.  It features my redesigned versions of six Saint Seiya characters (Seiyatachi plus Jabu) and is a redraw of a silly little ditty I made back in 2005.  To be updated as new pages are done.  I have seven pages planned in total.  Shortened to six.

Tools:  Wacom Intuos 4 and the GIMP, from pencils drawn using a cheap mechanical pencil on a plain old boring sketch pad.

Anyway, thanks for the comments!  Actually, my favorite part is where Seiya gets owned by Ikki's (uncharacteristically) clever rejoinder:  "I clean up better than you expected, don't I?" 

The pencils for p. 6 are done, and so I have to ink and color it.  The busy-ness of the semester (plus, admittedly, the release of an expansion pack for a PC game to which I'm addicted) got to me.  I will try to finish it up this week, and then move on to inking and coloring The Deadly Game.

Also I see Marin has been busy, time to get caught up on her stuff too.

I promise to work hard on learning to draw furniture.  Interiors especially need lots of work, plus as always my anatomy, proportion, and posing.

I can also promise that this will be the first and last time I ever have Seiya utter his (in)famous line from the end of every episode:  Kimi wa kosumo wo kanjita koto ga aru ka?
