I was chatting with someone about Cassios one day and it occurred to me that Cassios probably would have been better off if he had been given to someone beside Shaina to train.  Not because Shaina was a bad teacher, but because she was trying to teach Cassios a fighting style he really wasn't suited for.   Shaina, as well as Marin and Seiya, seem to have fighting styles that are based more on speed and agility than anything else.   Cassios' isn't really built for speed and agilty.  He's more of a brute strength fighter.

Also, the Pegasus Cloth itself might not have been the best Cloth for Cassios to train for.  Putting aside the fact that Seiya might have been destined to earn that Cloth, it seems like the Pegasus Cloth is more linked with speed than strength.  Once again, that's not Cassios greatest strength.

I think if he had a different eacher who had a style that was more suited to his strength, or even been training for a different Cloth, he might have been better off.   What does everyone else think?

That's not the problem. Cassios, like Geki the Bear, didn't seem to have any level of cosmo understanding and mastery. They WERE trained shittily, they never burned their cosmo, they just used strength. That's why most of the Bronzes sucked. Just another part of the corruption plaguing the place. With a proper Pope, there would have been more careful training, likely.

This. Shaina was a good warrior, but a pretty bad teacher.

I think Shaina just wanted a cheap servant. If Cassios had won a Clotrh, he'd be sent on missions and he wouldn't have done the housekeeping and cooking for her anymore. ^^

Geki fully understood the cosmo, but wasn't the best in controlling it. Otherwise he wouldn't have become a saint.

No, Geki even said his arms were the proof of his knighthood and he trained by crushing Bears by the throat. He even questioned when Seiya mentioned his own inner universe flaring up.

Look at Cassios. Cassios, with no mastery of cosmo, was one victory away from claiming the cloth. If it weren't for Seiya's cosmo, he would have won it.

In the manga, Aiolia is there, he's probably thinking, "Dude... I can kill you with just blinking my eye..." Smiley

But one needs to have a cosmo to wear their cloth, otherwise it would feel like they were wearing led.

Wouldn't bother the muscular Cassios all that much. He'd just use it like weighted clothing anyways.

Wouldn't really work out that way; without cosmos, the cloth would actually become a hindrance and weight you down.

In any case, I think Aldebaran would've made a better master. His techniques are more about defense than offense, and Cassios showed that he had a decent defense when he tried to fend of Aiolia. Shaina had always been more focused on her own personal vendettas, and Cassios was more of a pawn than anything else.
