I wonder too. I only saw the Robotech version.

Sheryll X Alto makes the best couple in my opinion. They seem like a good match and the interaction of their personalities are more entertaining.

How does Macross compare to Robotech?
I only saw the Macross series, but i believe the original will always be better than a mix of 3 series in 1.

Of all the Macrosses the first one was BY FAR the best story-wise. Adn deisng-wise.

The Mecha were simple, no frills, effective designs that really look like something the military would use. Form follows, function, simple transformation, minim number of moving parts. Loved it.

Some of the lattter VF designs are silly and/or impractical to the point of absurdity (thus hurting my suspension of Disbelief).

The SDF-1 never was a robot and never moved as one (the only thing it could really move was the "arms". The torso didn't turn, the legs werne't bendable...according to the design). Later we have ginat ship turning into gian robots (despite no practicality in it)...because why not?

Story wise, the latter Macross series turned music onto some great hypnotic power and J-pop into the greatest thing ever.
In the original there wasn't aynthing special about music OR J-pop. The Zentradi were exposed to our culture (trough our broadcasts and the 3 spies) in general and music was just the final motivator for rebellion (and cause for confusion in the end).
Later, J-pop is turned into the most powerfull force in the universe.

Oh, and lets not forget kid singers who are exceptionally popular among everyone.

The greatest abortion of Macross was Macross 7. Flying with a guitar? Singing an opponent to death/submission? A band player turned super-pilot. Mecha with a face????

Aaah..just thinking about it makes my blood boil!

Saw the 2 Macross Frontier films yesterday.
The first movie was decent, the 2nd was better. At a certain moment, I was convinced they really

I'm having mixed feelings about the movies. On the one hand, I'm glad that the love triangle is resolved but on the other hand I was really disappointed with the ending. *sigh* Which is starting to happen a lot.

The love triangle is cleared up, yet they still succeed in creating a sucky ending
