8D All right, now that I've gotten acquainted with the IPA, I know how to tell you people how to pronounce words (it would be good if you people knew the IPA, too, so there. Finnish phonology.). First off, I pronounce (according to IPA) /Raiden/ as [raiden] (the 'r' is the trill version). Just like that. Of course, that's not Finnish. Well, first off, "Hyvää huomenta" means "Good morning". It's pronounced as [hyʋæ:] [huomentʌ] And my first name, Elisa, is pronounced [elIsʌ] Go and tell me English phrases (important in a real discussion or not) which you would like for me to translate into Finnish / phonetic form. I'll update this thread as we go along. Note: The mark ":" after a vowel means it's a long vowel. - Good morning - Hyvää huomenta / [hyʋæ:] [huomenta]
- Good day - Hyvää päivää / [hyʋæ: pæiʋæ:]
- Good evening - Hyvää iltaa / [hyʋæ: Ilta:]
- Good night - Hyvää yötä / [hyʋæ: yətæ]
- Thank you - Kiitos, Kiitoksia (formal) / [ki:tos], [ki:toksia]
- Please - Olkaa hyvä (formal), ole hyvä (informal), kiitos (rarely used), pyydän (rarely used) / [olka: hyʋæ], [ole hyʋæ], [ki:tos], [py:dæn]
- You're welcome - Olkaa hyvä (formal), ole hyvä (informal) / [olka: hyʋæ], [ole hyʋæ]
- Yes - kyllä / [kyllæ]
- No - Ei / [ei]
PDF Survival Guide for those of you who think about coming to Finland (other people can read this, too. It's somewhat funny. XD;; ) By the way, never, ever say "kiitos" to a Greek. You know why? Because in Greek 'kiitos' apparently means something along the lines of "fat whale". XD

"Puhutko englantia?" and "Anteeksi/sori, en puhu suomea.". XP ...Anyway, short vowels, short vowels (except the "ee" part)... and Japanese-pronounced consonants. XDDDDDDDDDD

Oooh, Shen, are you interested to come in Finland? That's nice to hear! In your signature there is this sentence "Kaoss on aina osa minua". The first word is kaaos, not kaoss. And yes, I'm Finnish as well!

Or rather read carefully what I've written, since two consonants there just don't looks good xD My mistake, I've already corrected it xD And well it's not only I'm interested in coming, but today I found promotion on air plane tickets so I decided: well I have one life - time to use it, so I'm coming to Helsinki next month xD

Finnish may look strange in your eyes because we use lots of vowels in our words. And the letters B, C, D, F, G, Q, W and X are very rare for us. But that sounds nice! I hope you will like this country and language.

I'm starting to get used to lots of vowels when I'm trying to learn Estonian, and as far as I know, Finnish and Estonian are somehow similar And I'm nearly sure I will like your country (*everything is better than France in her opinion xD*) if only I will not get totally lost there xD

Estonian is very closely related to Finnish, so they are very similar languages.
