Hello, Well, here's my very first Saint Seiya FanArt posted ANYWHERE. This pic says "Ban of Lionet," which could be considered my version of Kurumada's side character but it's actually Ban's protege, Nathan, originally created for my own SS manga. After the Hades chapter, Ban furthers his training with a Shaolin Monk and an actual Flame Saint living deep within the hills of Mount Meru. After Ban completes his 6 yr training regiment, he then takes on a student, Nathan, and teaches him the following techniques: 1. Lionet Savage Barrage - a bombardment of claw strikes and punches similar to Panther/Leopard style Shaolin Gung Fu. 2. Hyaku doseki no netsurai (Heat Thunderstorm of a Hundred Stones) - the Lionet's most powerful blow, which creates the illusion of unearthed stones combined with an intense storm of heat and lighting. 3. Meruzan no herufaia (Hellfire of Mount Meru) - Lionet can generate intense heat and fire to trap his opponent. Depending on the situation, his power can create the illusion of unearthed magma being manipulated to surround the opponent. It's very possible that I've stuffed up these Japanese terms but I had a lot fun trying Enjoy! http://j-lan.deviantart.com/

Thanks ryuusei86 At the moment I'm actually working on the other four secondary Saints. After that I might start on the main five. As for physiques, it's hard to say at this point. I might wanna change things up or keep it close to the original. Facial features will definitely be different due to my particular style but their won't be a drastic change. With Shun I've always wanted to give him scars. I imagine him going thru some tough times learning how to wield and fight with chains. Now, as for characteristic traits I have a several ideas. The anime went into Shun's training moreso than the manga and I wanted to take it a bit further. Having been a student of Chinese Gung Fu since I was a kid, and now a teacher for 11 yrs, I understand what it's like to practice with weapons and get it or hit yourself when making a wrong move. I guess you could say that I've taken my experience in the martial arts and intergrated it into my version of Saint Seiya. In my story, Shun's skill with the chains is a combination of Kurumada's concept and the use of the Wushu chain whip. See examples: http://vids.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=vids.individual&videoID=1761112115http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ai9dSM9evT4Also, to see fighting choreography/applications refer to "Shanghai Noon" (Jackie Chain w/ rope and horseshoe) and "Romeo Must Die" (Jet Li w/ firehose). I can totally see Shun fighting like that. This combination would make a fight scene really wild and crazy cool. If I had the means of obtaining the rights to Saint Seiya and animate these examples believe me I would, but that's an intangible dream for me at this point. I recently watched "Dragon Tiger Gate" and was amazed with Donnie Yen's expressive style in battle. I thought to myself, "It would be hella cool to see Shiryu move like that!". Also, I'd like to see Jabu movie like Nicolas Tse in the film. Check out the clip to see both examples http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TnhWxmhUZDoCheers

Couldn't agree more about Jabu -- what little we know about his fighting style indicates a tendency toward kicking maneuvers. I will be particularly interested in seeing your version of Jabu, since although Seiya is my favorite character, it is Jabu who will be the hero of my doujinshi. As for Shun, the whip-chain thing sounds interesting and might lead to some interesting variations on the original. I am not yet at the place in my fancomic where the first combat will happen -- they have only recently changed from civilian clothes into their armor -- but it will come in about half a dozen pages and will really challenge me. Like you, I see Shun as being exceedingly lithe and quick. I have a moment planned where an enemy surprises him from behind and brings a knife to his throat, figuring "The Andromeda knight can't fight hand-to-hand!" Bad. Idea. Your work has also made me think that I really need to ink and color the pencil sketches I'm currently working on, many of which I've recently posted here. I am not much with CGing, but I love colored pencils. Too much fun! Who'd have thought that I'd see someone else's work also involving "un-manga-fying" the Saint Seiya cast? On top of it, I see you're in Australia, and I have a friend/e-mail pal in Sydney. But that's neither here nor there.

Interesting point on the "second string" of bronze saints, as I also wish more had been made of them. I guess the point was that they had lost at least one round each in the Galactic Wars near the start of the TV series, but it is a shame that this reduced them (apart from one brief shining moment in episode 61) to hanging in the background for 20 years of Saint Seiya episodes saying things like, "I guess we'll just have to wait and trust Seiya-tachi." As for making up attacks, I think to some extent it's necessary for these minor characters, if we intend to use them convincingly. There's a thread somewhere here on new made-up attacks, and I have a couple of my own, for Jabu and Shaina and June in particular. What they will look like is another matter. I am also still trying to decide whether they have to yell out the attack name while delivering it, but that's a whole different subject. In any case, I'll be interested to see what you make of Jabu and his team. Geki will have to be huge!

Just my two cents as a big fan of Ichi and Ban (is it a coincidence that "IchiBan" means "Number One"?? I think not!), but Lionet Bomber never struck me as tooo unconvincing for someone of Ban's physique, as I too grew up being exposed to martial arts of all kinds, including lucha libre! Once you've seen some of those big guys move, especially off the ground, things like Lionet Bomber don't seem so daft!
Of course, that's not to say I didn't laugh my arse off the first time he did it. But that's beside the point, now. =3
And that picture is really great! Nathan looks a lot like Ban, with even a hint of that distinctive wide nose and imposing build! I'm also really pleased to see another Ban fan (well, I'm pleased to see another Ban fan AT ALL XD) who imagines him learning some heat-related techniques. The ones I've imagined centre more around athletic grappling, and wrestling-type strikes, but at least we're in the same book, if not on the same page. =D
I've always stuck up for the B-Team, as I call them. I mean, they're a muuuch better balanced version of Seiya-tachi! Jabu's kicks, Nachi's punches, Ban's throws, Geki's holds, and Ichi's poison; a winning combination that.. never.. seems.. to win. ^^;;

Thanks Gomess & Tetsu Aero Gomess: Yeah, I don't doubt that a move like the Lionet Bomber is possible. I just don't like it LOL! As a Saint the move is pretty useless, especially against a skilled Saint. The thought a Saint moving outta the way, at mach speed, everytime Ban trys to jump on 'em is just pure comedy. Ban would look like the world's biggest flea LOL! Now, grappling. Yes! I like your thinking. THAT would be awesome to see, especially since no one in the SS universe fights in that style. Ban would be a mixed martial arts master like Dean Lister of the UFC. Had Ban used the Lionet Bomber with a barrage of grabs, locks and throws he'd be a completely different league. Tetsu Aero: LOL! About the tattoo, I should have know. It makes sense and I'm not surprised. Since I got married I've just been outta touch with the gay community and lifestyle. I keep up on political issues but not symbols and stuff like that. I simply don't have the time now that my wife and I have our careers, 3 kids and another one on the way. Thanks for getting me up to speed. As for the picture, you must have seen or have the old file image? I changed the tattoo once I realised that I had used a bear paw, which has 5 toes over the heel. I must have been thinking of Geki at the time cause that's the next character I'll be working on. I switched it to a lion paw and added the claws over the toes. Good eye on the belt. Cheers for that mate

Yeahh, the B-Team always struck me as being the potentially unstoppable hand-to-hand fighters of the Saints, almost just as a foil to Seiya-tachi's ice-shooting, chain-flinging ways...
Definitely something like Brazilian jujutsu for Ban! But hey, if Geki's next on your list, how do you see his style...? For me, he and Ban were always the "grapplers" (while Jabu and Nachi were the strikers), with Ban more focused on technical throws, and Geki on raw holds and simple takedowns; almost fighting like an American footballer turned street brawler. XD
I look forward to seeing your rendition of one of the biggest Bronze Saints around, or of his student or whathaveyou. ^^

It's really interesting to see someone rooting for the other 5 bronze saints. I think they are not weak, they have the average strength for standard bronze saints. It''s the 5 main bronzes that surpasses their bronze level ^^.
I can't wait to see your other drawings, as it seems that you've think through them a lot with your reasonings behind them.
