Actually, I'm pretty sure Oscar was inspired by a real person called Chevalier d'Eon. She was one of the world's first known transgender people - physically male, but during the latter half of her life began to dress and act female. Only in Oscar's case, she was a female that was raised as and acted male.

One of the historical characters - Hans Axel von Fersen - actually did have an affair with Marie Antoinette in real life. ...After she was executed, Fersen grew to resent the common people and in the end he was beaten to death as a scapegoat for the death of Sweden's crown prince (he had nothing to do with it). Basically, the common people attacked him in broad daylight and one of them jumped on his chest and crushed his ribcage. Not to mention Fersen's military escort abandoned him when the mob showed up.

@SageofTime:  Madame de Polignac was quite real, and so was Jeanne.  However, I do think a good bit of Jeanne's backstory was invented.  Rosalie was, too; she's Jeanne's sister, right?

Sorry if I seemed a bit patronizing with my "Oscar isn't real" comment; I wasn't sure if you knew much about the history of the era.

@Raiden:  Oscar may have been very-loosely inspired by Chevalier d'Eon, but only in a loose sense.  And didn't he only do that to spy, or did he decide he liked being a woman outside of his job?

She actually decided to live the rest of her life in female clothes. That was waaaay after the spying ended.

Yes that is what I was trying to say that they are real but Polignac and Rosalie are not related if you look at the the bio of Polignac none of her children are either Rosalie or Charlotte. Rosalie was a servant to Marie Antionette and Jeanne was actually involved in the diamond necklace scandal but not related to Rosalie. That is what I meant by my first comment by historically inaccurate because some of the characters are not even related to one another. You are right I don't know a lot about this era in  history unless it is American but I was thinking as a social science credit to take a western cilvilization class.

Finished the Rose of Versailles anime and the end was so sad   Andre died when Oscar just realized that she loved him and then she dies at the Bastille.

One of the few series that doesn't have a happy ending for practically anybody (since Marie Antoinette and Fersen die, too... eventually).

Truly a classic.  I'll rarely watch fifteen episodes in one day when watching a show, and this is one of the few that made me do it AND still love every second of it.

My favorite voice actor has gotten married. omfg

Takeshi Kusao (Hades and SoG Shura, Omega Jabu) and Yuka Saitou got married this month. ...They've got quite an age difference - Kusao is nearly 50, Saitou is nearly 29; meaning he's 21 years older than she is.

...Now I'm slightly bitter. XD Saitou is only two years older than I am... if I'd been born Japanese, I could have had a shot at marrying Kusao. (Just kidding. ...Half.)

I just found out Masakazu Morita (Hades Seiya) has no acting or voice acting training at all. He just started doing it. o_O; This is actually really impressive. You mean he had never acted before he voiced Tidus in Final Fantasy?

It also seems he learns really fast through experience - as the years have passed by, he's become able to use a great variety of voices all on his own without any training. Think Marco from One Piece and Tanba from Ace of Diamond - they're completely different from his Seiya and Ichigo voices. ...Haizaki from Kurobasu still sounds like him, but I'd never seen him do such a vicious role before. Haizaki's character song "TYRANT" is really crazy and badass. Just try imagining Seiya singing this. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZbJyXQeIwmE

Also, Toshiyuki Morikawa (LoS Aiolos) is amazing. XD His abdominal muscles and voice are so strong that he managed to break two mics while screaming "VOLTEKKA!". And all this happened during his debut role.

I need to hurry up and watch Tekkaman Blade.  How the hell do you break a microphone just by screaming?
